Local History Photos & Newspaper: February 21, 2025

Hi everyone, here are the Local History Photos of the Week!

Local History & Newspaper blog posts are published on Fridays; and the next post will be out on Friday, February 28, 2025.

Local History Photo 1: (Old) City Hall, Corning, N.Y. Postcard

Local History Photo 2: The Evening Leader Building, Corning, N.Y.

I took a look at the old city directories to find the location of the Evening Leader building. And according to the 1958 city directory The Leader offices were located at 114 Walnut Street.

The 1959 directory indicates that The Leader offices had moved and were then located at 149 East Pulteney Street, in Corning; the building was torn down before the “new” highway was completed in that area; so unfortunately that cool old building no longer exists I’d love to do more research on just when all of that occurred but have run out of time for this week —

Hi everyone, here are the Local History Photos of the Week!

Local History & Newspaper blog posts are published on Fridays; and the next post will be up on February 14, 2025 (Happy Valentine’s Day in advance!)

All three of our postcards for this week show the old Wing & Bostwick Store.

And I thought it would be fund to take a photo of the listing for the store in the city directory (1905) and include that bit if info to show where the store was located. So here it is!
