Library Local History/Creation Station Resources:
At the library you can scan your photos and slides to create digital family albums and slideshows; and even use one of the Circut machines, and other Creation Station equipment, to help you create a special paper family history album.
Also of note, we have local papers including the Corning Leader, Corning Evening Leader, Corning Journal and Corning Daily Journal, on microfilm from 1840 to the present — so you can visit the library and research local history and your family tree if you wish!

Local History & Newspaper blog posts are published on Fridays.

Hello Linda. The first photo “Irish Hill” at lower left has my grandparents’ house at 252 W First Street. It is on the corner with Hamilton. Can you tell me where you found this photo? Is there any annotation with it or anything written on the back? The house was built in 1900 and the arsenal’s stone wall (seen in foreground) came down a few years later. Thank you for posting this wonderful photo. Terence Cronin

Hi, thanks for taking a look at our local history blog!
The photo showing Irish Hill is part of the library’s local history photo archive.
I’ll check when I get to the library this afternoon and see if there is any notation on the back of the photo; and will let you know.
Have a great Friday!
Linda
