Library Local History/Creation Station Resources:
At the library you can scan your photos and slides to create digital family albums and slideshows; and even use one of the Circut machines, and other Creation Station equipment, to help you create a special paper family history album.
Also of note, we have local papers including the Corning Leader, Corning Evening Leader, Corning Journal and Corning Daily Journal, on microfilm from 1840 to the present — so you can visit the library and research local history and your family tree if you wish!

All right! Some history from the 70s! That’s 50 years ago and counts as history. I look forward to more pictures from the 70s, after the recovery.

I was there , What a mess. I seemed after the flood that Corning started to grow.
The rebuild seem to start a Renaissance of sort, as much as the city of corning could.

Thank you for doing what you do. I enjoy reading your weekly emails so much & seeing all the pictures of so many years ago. I do have a question for you. My dad was a pilot during WW!!. When he returned from war, he was living in Painted Post. Upon his return there was a parade for him in Painted Post. Do you think there would be an article somewhere that I could read about him? It was either 1943 or 1944, His name was !st Lieutenant Raymond W. Manning. No sure if you can help me. I just thought I would begin my search asking you. Any help you can give me would be so much appreciated. Thank you Mary Manning

Hi, thanks for your kind words. I’d be happy to take a look and see if I can find an article in The Corning Leader featuring the parade that honored your father. Do you have any idea as to the time of year the parade was held? I can spend some time searching, without a date or time of year though – it may take a while. Have a great day, Linda Reimer, SSCL

His las mission was March 29, 1944. He returned back to the States soon after that.
As far as I know the parade was held not long after that.
Thank you for your help. So much appreciated.
