Mark Twain & His Summer Home

Hi everyone, while I was researching something else, I came across a neat photo, on the front page of the Corning Daily Journal, July 24, 1901, showing Mark Twain’s rented summer home in Saranac Lake, New York. As today is the 124th anniversary of the publication of the photo, it seemed a good time to share it.

The Saranac Lake home shown, today known as the Mark Twain Camp, still exists, and you can still rent it!

Here is link to the Weebly site on the camp that shows what the historic camp looks like today:

And as Mark Twain is our historical subject of the day, I thought I’d also share his obituary and burial information, from the Corning Daily Journal as it offers an overview of his life and his ties to our area; his wife Olivia Langdon Clemens was from Elmira and he is buried next to her in Elmira’s Woodlawn Cemetery.

Here is the obituary and the related pages from The Corning Daily Journal

Have a great Thursday everyone,

Linda
