The item record for this photo indicates that it is of the Riverside Builders Float that appeared in a Parade held in Corning, NY on July 4, 1929.

What a cool float!

Don’t forget at the library you can scan your photos and slides to create digital family albums and slideshows; and even use one of our Circut machines, and other Creation Station equipment, to help you create a special paper family history album or calendar for 2017!

Have a great weekend!

And here’s your weekly reminder that at the library you can scan your photos and slides to create digital family albums and slideshows; and even use one of the Circut machines, and other Creation Station equipment, to help you create a special paper family history album.

Also of note, we have the local paper, at times called the Corning Leader, Corning Journal or Corning Daily Journal, on microfilm from 1840 to the present — so you can visit the library and research local history and your family tree if you wish!

And…

If you find any old photos of the Corning area that you don’t know what to do with – you can always donate them to the library! We’re happy to add new photos to our Local History Photo Archive.

Local History Photos Of The Week October 1, 2016

Happy Saturday morning everyone!

Here are two local history photos for your weekend perusal!

Local History Photo 1:

This one appears to be a parade and by the hats the men are wearing I’d guess this photo was taken in the early 20th Century — perhaps on First Street in Corning? We have no information on the photo itself — so it is a mystery!

Local History Photo 2:

Our second photo for this week does have a written records which notes:

“Parade: Drill team competition on C.F.A. Campus.”

This photo too looks like it might have been taken early in the 30th Century – and I wonder if the men in uniform were drilling as part of a training to become fireman?

And those are our local history photos of the week!

Remember you can work on your local history projects at the library too!

At the library you can:
