Local History Photo 1: Keuka Lake (c. 1900)

Our first photo for this week, is a Drake Family photo showing Keuka Lake around 1900.

Local History Photo 2: Baseball Game (1897)

Our second photo for this week is also a Drake Family photo and although a bit dark and grainy – it is cool! It shows a baseball game played in 1897!

Local History Photo 3: City of Corning Bond (1904)

And our final photo for this week shows an old bond, issued by the City of Corning in 1904 to help pay for the then “new” city hall – the building today houses the Rockwell Museum in Corning.

Old Newspaper Article of the Week

A local wresting match from 1912, is our Old Newspaper Article of the Week; between a Seattle Doctor and a Corning resident no less!

Also of note, we have the local paper, at times called the Corning Leader, Corning Journal or Corning Daily Journal, on microfilm from 1840 to the present — so you can visit the library and research local history and your family tree if you wish!

Our third photo for this week is one of the “newest” in our archive. It shows a glass engraver working in a portable shop, surrounded by young people in 1972. I always hope when I show the photo, that someone will recognize some of the people in it – please let me know if you do!
