Local History Photo 1:  Coring Glass Works 1946

The record for this photo says “Looking S. from shipping platform between buildings #5 and #21”

I believe the photo was taken on the southside of Corning near where the new headquarters building is today. And obviously they were experiencing some major flooding in 1946s! If you know anything about the location of old Corning Glass Works buildings 5 and 21, let us know!

The photo is a bit crooked because the binding of the yearbook is a bit fragile. However, it is still super cool to see the 1912 CFA football team!

This photo was taken by the Drake Family and shows a helium balloon being ready for takeoff circa 1900!

Our second photo for this week was also taken by a member of the Drake Family circa 1900 and shows two horses and carriages driving down an unpaved Corning street.

And I love the Dickensque top hat the driver of the carriage seen at the right side of the photo is wearing – how cool is that?!

As I mentioned in a previous blog posting, we’ve had a donation of several Addison Central School and Campbell Savona Spotlight yearbooks. And as we are not adding them to our collection, and I need to free up some space on my desk – I’m going to forgo putting up any local history photos this week and, instead, post photos from the 1965 & 1966 Campbell Savona Spotlight yearbooks and the 1991 & 1992 Addison yearbooks.
