Local History Photos of The Week – Friday, October 21, 2016

Hi everyone, happy Friday!

Here are our local history photos of the week!

Photo 1: “Bird’s-eye of North Side, Corning, N.Y.”

This photo appears to be one of a postcard and it features the title “Bird’s-eye of North Side, Corning, N.Y. showing W. Pulteney St. and New North Side High School.

The year the photo was taken is a mystery but it is a neat view!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Local History Photos of The Week – Friday, October 14, 2016

Hi everyone, I’m going to start posting local history photos every Friday — just to keep things consistent!

Local History Photo 1:

The Park Hotel in Tioga, Pennsylvania

This photo is of a cool looking hotel — one that would be neat to stay in today, for its historic value. Unfortunately the record for this photo indicates the building was “built in 1876 and burned in 1915,” so I guess we can’t stay there now…

Local History Photo 2:

A Drake Family Member

The record for our second photo of the week contains scant information; it indicates that the photo is of a member of the Drake Family and that it was taken in Corning around 1900. It is a neat photo of a little girl and her dog — and if anyone knows who the little girl was — please enlighten the rest of us!

Have a great week!

Local History Photos Of The Week October 1, 2016

Happy Saturday morning everyone!

Here are two local history photos for your weekend perusal!

Local History Photo 1:

This one appears to be a parade and by the hats the men are wearing I’d guess this photo was taken in the early 20th Century — perhaps on First Street in Corning? We have no information on the photo itself — so it is a mystery!

Local History Photo 2:

Our second photo for this week does have a written records which notes:

“Parade: Drill team competition on C.F.A. Campus.”

This photo too looks like it might have been taken early in the 30th Century – and I wonder if the men in uniform were drilling as part of a training to become fireman?

And those are our local history photos of the week!
